Cruelty free skin care

I’ve been on a kick lately. A cruelty free shopping kick. One day, while shopping, it occured to me that I did not routinely check whether the products I buy are cruelty free, meaning they do not test on animals. I was disappointed by my mistake, but since then I have been checking.

Any of you that know me well know that I am picky about what products I use. This includes cosmetics, hygiene products, home cleaning products, etc. I think its ok to be picky, especially about things you put on or in your body. I gravitate towards natural products anyways, but apparently not always.

Turns out most of my skin care products are made by companies that have pledged to be cruelty free and treat their employees pretty well too. Here are a few of my favorite personal products that are cruelty free.

1) Alba Botanica Even Advanced Night Cream

I love this product so much. It comes in a day cream too, but the night cream is thick and moisturizing and my dry skin just loves it. It doesn’t make me break out and makes my skin seem a little brighter. I’ve used this moisturizer for over 10 years.

2) Earth Science Clarifying Face Wash

This has been my go to face wash since college. It cleanses without stripping and there is little to no scent.

3) Baebody Eye Gel

I can’t help but love this cult fave. I use it mostly when my eyes are puffy and it helps so much with that. I can’t really tell you if if helps with wrinkles, but I do like it as an eye gel.

4) Kiss my Face face factor sunscreen

My face is super sensitive to sunscreen. I *love* this one because it doesn’t make me break out and it is not too oily. The instructions say to reapply every few hours, so it is not really sweatproof. I also take care to wear hats to shade my face so I usually just apply once.

5) everyone lotion in coconut and lemon

This is a great body and hand lotion. It has a nice fresh scent but is not overpowering. I use it daily.

So there are 5 of my all around favorite beauty products that are cruelty free. I know I have a lot of work to do in this area. I try to make purchases from ethical companies and although I am not vegan, my diet has been pretty plant based lately. The problem is that I love cheese so much. The dairy industry can be pretty horrifying if you know the details, so for now I choose to buy my products locally and from companies I know a little something about. This is a work in progress and of course I am open to your suggestions.

What do you think? Do you know where your products come from?

I know my milk and eggs come from new Hampshire. No clue on my mascara though. No

Check out environmental working group to take it a step further and find out which products are safest for you (i.e., endocrine disrupters, etc.)
